Cultural Awareness Custom Courses

By choosing to have a course tailored to your specific needs, you can maximise the benefits of cross-cultural training for all staff. We build upon our Cultural Awareness courses and can model content on issues such as health, law, the environment, housing, employment, welfare dependency, violence, policing, economics, homelands, or education.

The Nahri Institute aims to enable effective communication and culturally aware practices to facilitate the delivery of services to Indigenous communities in a way that provides for the empowerment of Indigenous people and the restoration of health, wealth, and dignity to their communities.

Our custom courses build upon an exploration of the historical positioning of Indigenous issues, and the dynamics of the interaction between Indigenous and non-Indigenous cultures.

Generally, we have found those clients’ needs fall into 4 main types:

  1. Personnel engaging directly with Indigenous communities
  2. Personnel engaging directly in education & training of Indigenous persons
  3. Personnel who have limited contact with communities but are involved in Aboriginal policy or program development or management
  4. No direct impacts on Indigenous people but require general orientation to cross-cultural issues.

Problem solving and opportunity for questions occurs regularly during the course.

Course Components

Course components are designed to accommodate the skill requirements of these types of personnel and combine them to target clients’ needs.

In addition to this we can model content to emphasize the subject areas or social issues of most relevance to personnel, such as health, law, the environment, housing, employment, welfare dependency, violence, policing, economics, homelands or education.

This enables personnel engaging with Indigenous community’s ways to contextualize effective methodologies and skills for their workplace.

The emphasis is creating useful tools that reflect participants’ specific needs.

We can tailor solutions by enhancing an existing course or building an entirely new training program.

Training can be delivered in the form of customized courses, seminars, workshops, or in the context of mediated conflict resolutions & cross-cultural interventions where there are issues between staff internally or between an organisation and Aboriginal community members.

Who are these courses for?
For policy makers, individuals and organisations who are directly involved in delivering services to Aboriginal people and their communities.

Many Indigenous people have also found these courses very instructive, providing answers to many unanswered questions.

Our courses are of great interest to people who simply want to know more about Aboriginal people or who want to discover that we are all cultural beings.
